Jay-Z to headline 2027 Super Bowl halftime, weeks after Tottenham
The NFL has confirmed Jay-Z for the 2027 halftime show, a few weeks after his two-night London run at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
If you were at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September, you saw the start of a long victory lap. Jay-Z has now been confirmed as the headliner of the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, with the announcement made on Monday night by Roc Nation, the NFL and Apple Music.
He will perform on 14 February at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. According to the Evening Standard, the news came ahead of the NFL's Monday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.
From N17 to Inglewood
The booking brings him back to the stadium where, as the Independent reports, he closed his Jay-Z 30 concerts over the weekend. That run began with three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, continued in London and ended in Southern California.
The London leg was two nights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September. The Evening Standard says the shows celebrated the anniversaries of Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, and marked his first solo UK appearance in over a decade. The previous one was the Magna Carter World Tour in October 2013.
The Standard lists the guests who joined him over the two nights: Lauryn Hill, Giggs, Idris Elba, DJ Khaled, Sampha and Dave.
What he and the NFL said
In his statement, the 56-year-old said: “From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey.” He added: “Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said: “When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him.”
The Independent notes that Roc Nation, which Jay-Z founded in 2008, has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to advise on and help produce the league's entertainment presentations. Headliners since then include Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny, per the Standard.
The guest list guessing game
The NFL's own statement, as reported by the Standard, said speculation over who Jay-Z might bring out will now begin, and that his wife, Beyoncé, will be "atop the list". The Independent points to other notable collaborators: Alicia Keys (Empire State of Mind), Justin Timberlake (Holy Grail), Frank Ocean (Oceans, No Church in the Wild) and Rihanna (Umbrella, Run This Town).
A tough act to follow
The bar is high. The Standard reports that Kendrick Lamar's 2025 show became the most-watched halftime show in history and won the Emmy for outstanding music direction. The Independent gives its audience as 135.5 million. Bad Bunny's show last year drew 128.2 million viewers, and the paper's four-star review called it a “wild, inclusive fiesta”.
Jay-Z's credentials are not in doubt. Both outlets note 25 Grammy Awards, and the Independent adds 89 nominations, the second-most in history behind Beyoncé. He was the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2017) and joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Reasonable Doubt, his 1996 debut, entered the Grammy Hall of Fame last year.
