If your bill looks a pound heavier in November, there is a good reason. StreetSmart, the restaurant fundraising campaign for homelessness charities, is back for its 29th year, and a handful of London newcomers have signed up.

Who is joining in London

According to Hospitality & Catering News and Big Hospitality, the new London participants for 2026 are 2210 by Natty Can Cook, Cloth Cornhill, Lunette and Bar Blondie. Outside the capital, Joro in Sheffield and Trillium in Birmingham are also new this year.

They join established supporters including St John, Barrafina, Gymkhana, Lina Stores and The Wolseley.

How it works

Participating restaurants add a voluntary £1 donation per table to the bill during November and December. It is collected through their existing billing systems, and diners can decline it.

The campaign is open to restaurants, pubs and hotels of all sizes, from independents to larger groups.

Where the money goes

StreetSmart has raised more than £16.2 million since it began in 1998. In 2025 it raised £1,178,000, with approximately 650 restaurants taking part across the UK, according to Hospitality & Catering News.

LandAid, the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness, covers the campaign's operating costs. That means 100% of donations go to charitable projects, with nothing deducted.

Money stays in the communities where it is collected, supporting local organisations. The projects provide meals, emergency accommodation, healthcare, employment training, housing advice and routes into permanent housing.

Big Hospitality reports that StreetSmart also highlights youth homelessness, citing government figures that put the number of 18 to 25 year olds at risk of being without a home at 123,000.

What the restaurants say

Mark Birchall, the three Michelin-starred chef whose restaurant Moor Hall supports the campaign every year, said: “Unfortunately, homelessness is a very real issue all over the UK. The discretionary £1 donation is a small contribution which can make a huge difference.”

Anna Watkins, Managing Director of Barrafina, said the charity is “very close to our hearts”, pointing to the group's central London restaurants and the impact of homelessness people see every day.

Luke French, owner of Joro in Sheffield, spoke of his own early years in supported housing. He said: “Everyone deserves somewhere safe to sleep and the chance to move forward in life.”

Who is backing it

Hospitality and media partners include the MICHELIN Guide, The Good Food Guide, OpenTable, TopJaw, Broadsheet and The Standard, which help promote the campaign and encourage diners and restaurants to take part.
